FATHER VESA: We came to Vilnius for vacation. We decided to dedicate today to Kaunas, we are traveling there by train. In Finland, such a trip can cost up to 50 Euros per person. It’s a pity that there is no direct train from Finland through the Baltic countries to Poland!
MOTHER NINA: As parents, we want to show our girls different countries, different cultures.
RONJA: My parents and I like to visit European capitals. We have already visited seventeen!
LUNA: We were in Tallinn and Riga, but in Vilnius – for the first time.
RONJA: Before the pandemic, we visited at least one capital a year. In 2018, we visited even 3 capitals: Budapest, Bratislava and Riga. This trip is the first after the pandemic.
MOTHER NINA: We live in Tampere, 200 kilometers from Helsinki. We like big cities, we are almost obsessed with them, and later we remember the impressions very vividly for a long time.
LUNA: We try to learn at least a few words in the local language – little ones, stray ones. Well, like THANK YOU (everyone laughs).
FATHER VESA: Vilnius is beautiful for us, a good balance between new and old. That’s very nice. It is so small, it is not Rome or Paris.
RONJA: And Lithuanians are nice, always smiling, very friendly. It’s safe here, I can walk the streets alone. Before I arrived, I had no preconceived notions of what the city would be like. I thought maybe like Riga or Tallinn. But no, it’s a little different.
FATHER VESA: On vacation, we walk around the city, looking for places to eat and drink coffee. Only I don’t eat everything. I am vegan. I ate local food yesterday, my stomach stopped.
RONJA: And we eat meat. It is interesting to try local dishes. We also like thrift stores. We found one in the old town that was open even on Sunday. How much history there is!
LUNA: In Kaunas, we want to visit the center, visit the homeopathic pharmacy. We read about it online and are very curious to visit. We will return to Vilnius by the last train.
